My favorite Linux books

Probably I read too many Linux books. Anyway here are some recommendations and reviews. Hopefully it will help one or another to buy the right book.

HACKING, THE ART OF EXPLOITATION, 2nd Edition
Jon Erickson

This is the best IT book I have ever read in my life!
It is a deep dive into the internals of the operating system. You learn how to examine software to find bugs, not just to use already existing exploits. For guys like me who work mainly as system administrators the stuff is real hard-core. Programmers have it much easier of course. To know C and some assembly is necessary to understand the content of the book. This book is for experts.

SELinux by Example
Frank Mayer
Karl Macmillan
David Caplan

This one is the most extensive book for SELinux currently available. It uses the Fedora distribution. It goes into detail about the SELinux policy language, commands, tools and explains very accurately the concepts of and behind SELinux. If you want to write or modify policies directly then this book is for you. I recommend the book for those who are already familiar with SELinux and need to deepen their knowledge.

Time Management for System Administrators
Thomas A. Limoncelli

This book is independent of the operating system. So it's not really a Linux book. It can help you a lot to organize the daily sysadmins work itself. You find her many useful hints and tips how to reduce your stress level, how to speed up your work, how to deal with colleagues, with the management or with customers. You learn things like dealing efficiently with the the mail flood, how to automate tasks or how to set priorities. For me the book was an eye opener because before I focused solely on the technical aspects of my work. This book is for every system administrator who wants to relax and enjoy his work.
