The beautiful Rhine District in the middle of Germany

I would like to give you some information about the beautiful Rhine District ("Rheingau" in german) in Germany. This is the place where I currently live. I love this part of Germany and the people living here. You find pictures below.

The Rhine District is part of Hesse which is located in the middle of Germany. And it is aside the big Rhine river. This river is also the place of many famous german legends.

I love the Rhine District because it is warm and pleasant here. We have less rain than in many other regions of Germany. But it's not only warm outside. As soon as I arrived I felt that this region is somehow blessed, I feel also warm in my heart here.

What makes the Rhine District so attractive is that it has lots of benefits very close together. For example I live near Wiesbaden which is famous for its hot thermal springs. People come from far away to find relief or even healing by taking a bath in the hot springs.

To the east of Wiesbaden is Frankfurt with its international airport. From my place I need less then 30 minutes by car to get there. Not necessary to mention that you will find many job opportunities around Frankfurt. Frankfurt is mainly a bank town, some call it "Bankfurt".

To the west you find the Taunus mountains. Well, not really high mountains, just a few hundred metres high. But ideal for all kinds of sport. It is covered by a huge wood and very beautiful nature. I prefer mountainbiking and the Taunus has some really fantastic routes. I could spend the whole day by exploring these mountains. At many places you have a spectacular view over the Rhine river with its small historical villages. But also aquatic sport is possible like water skiing and jet-skiing.

For a more relaxed day you can walk along the riverside and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere there. Some cafes and restaurants are only a few metres away from the river.

The Rhine District is one of the most meaningful wine regions in Germany. A special kind of wine you find here is called ice wine. Ice wine can only be made under rare weather conditions. The berries must be harvested and processed at minus 7 degrees centigrade or less. The result is an extremely tasty and sweet wine which is usually served along with the dessert.

If you love middle age architecture and castles then this place is for you. For example the small town Eltville is especially beautiful. It's always worth a visit.

From Frankfurt you need about one hour by car to reach the Rhine District region. But also without a car it's possible. For example you can go by regional train from Frankfurt to Eltville in less than one hour. The price is about 10 Euros (one way). The best place to find out train/bus connections is Deutsche Bahn.

Prices for accommodation in Wiesbaden or Frankfurt start at about 70 Euros per night. The best travel season is from June to September.
